Compass has worked in the design and implemention of databases (mostly Oracle) and accompanying web applications to help address business problems. This has involved all aspects of data collection, movement, transformation, storage, and analysis. Our main client in this period has been McDonald's Corporation (Oak Brook, IL). Additional projects were completed for other corporate clients such as Telecom (now Spark), and Air New Zealand, and various applications have been built for smaller clients as well.

I am a keen amateur musician and an Australasian registered piano technician (ARPT).
I am currently the deputy chair of the Auckland Town Hall Organ Trust

Good idea, but impractical to police for wider public events. One more for the

- web based competition entry and competitor/schedule/programme management system.
Implemented 2020. Sadly this competition folded in Covid times.
- Finance Master (FM) (2008 - 2018). FM is a web app which collects financial
accounting information from each country for centralised reporting at head office.
Still in use by McDonald's.
- Item Master (IM) (2007 - 2018). Following on from the success of GBL, IM is a web
app that collects
global data about all menu items to a central database for head office.
Still in use by McDonald's.
- Global Business Location (GBL) (2005 - 2018) Web app for collection of data surrounding
McDonald's stores and other business locations. XML API and a simpler spreadsheet based
system used by all countries to report data to head office.
Still in use by McDonald's.

- web based competition entry and competitor/schedule/programme management system.

- St. Matthew's-in-the-City (2013 - )
- web based hymn and music database management system for a large Auckland church
- RFM (2005-2008)
- Web application used to manage cash register configuration, developed by a Brazilian company and implemented
into McDonald's and supported and managed by us.
- Plan To Win (2003-2005)
- Implemented 2003. Corporate web app for collecting and reporting on
country level performance metrics. Retired/superceded by GBL.
- Air NZ (2003)
- web based interface to a runway calculation engine for usage in pilots' lounge.
Built 2003. Current status unknown.
- Mule (2003 - )
- configurable automated file transfer system between head office databases and back office PCs in
all McDonald's restaurants in NZ. Written entirely in Java in 2002-3. Still in use transporting thousands
of files per day.
- IDW (2000-2003)
- International Data Warehouse, analysis and reporting framework built for McDonald's Corporation.
- WINZ (1999-2000)
- Oracle database administration contracts
- Telecom Payphones reporting system - (1999-)
- Lights out scheduling system for extracting information from legacy
system controlling the payphones in NZ and reporting information to analysts. Built entirely
in the UNIX shell. Written in the late 90s, this system ran until the few remaining payphones
were decomissioned in 2023.
